Dry Needling
What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.
What can dry needling treat?
- Muscle belly – trigger points, areas of tightness
- Musculotendinous junction – the place where the muscle begins to become tendon
- Tendon
- Tenoperiosteal junction – where the tendon connects to the bone
- Ligaments
- Bone
- Scars
What does a dry needling session consist of?
The initial 1 hour session will consist of full musculoskeletal assessment, not just the area of complaint. It will consist of a postural analysis, movement assessment tests, brief gait analysis and range of motion/muscle testing as needed. Follow up sessions will vary from 15 minutes to 1 hour.
